Christmas 2011

This year we celebrated our first Christmas with the girls where we were away from all family :-(

Meghan and David (rob’s sister and brother-in-law) took off to California for Christmas with their kiddos. So we were left on our own. And it just wasn’t the same as years’ past without all the grandparents, siblings, in-laws, and cousins to see. However, we weren’t alone because we did have some great new friends we were able to enjoy the special day with. Right away when we first came to Boulder back in September, we found this great Acts 29 church plant called The Well that we have been getting plugged in to. We have met some really wonderful families there and were blessed to be able to be with some of them on Christmas day. One of the pastors and his wife had us over for brunch and to watch Elf (you just have to watch Elf at Christmas time!), and then we all went sledding. Later that night we were able to have dinner with another one of the pastors and his family that live just a mile a way from us. It was so nice to have a low-key Christmas, with lots of down time and the freedom to come and go places as we please.

I failed to take pictures of any of the happenings on the 25th. But…. I can compensate by posting our Christmas card for this year and then provide some more clarity to any one out there who might not have “got” it.

the inspiration!

I just love Mumford & Sons and their album picture above has a link to where you can buy it at Amazon. Any fan would recognize right away that our card was a rendition of this awesome album (even though the proportions are a bit off – I tried). On top of recognizing a favorite group, I also wanted to take it a step further with why we can “sigh no more…” I just love the verse Isaiah 9:6 and had been hearing and reading it several times throughout the season of Advent. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” It seemed a most appropriate verse to include on our card as to why we celebrate!

So if you are one of the 10 or 11 folks that knew right away where the idea for our card came from, yay for you!! And if not, well hopefully you have since acquainted yourself with a new band :-) Think of it as my Christmas gift to you (just don’t listen to the song “Little Lion Man” with kids nearby…)
